The really sad thing about Kobe is that he seems less driven by the love of the game than any of the other greats. He seems basically driven by a need to be considered the best, to be like mike. No internal engine...

Which is precisely why he will never be "like Mike", and will never be one of the "greats" of the game. Bird, Magic, Kareem, Walton, Russell...they all wanted their teams to win above all else. They played because they had to. If they hadn't been paid, they'd have still played at the same level. Not true at all of Kobe (and I don't think it's just a maturity thing...these other guys were the same way at 18 as at 35).
