stak: It's funny the ADSL rates are all over the place from less than $20 to around 130 per month. I don't know how they calculate it , but it's pretty confusing keeping track of it all. Cable on the other hand has been basically the same price for the last 5 years.

Cable isn't widely available here (but then that's what you get for having a monopoly in that space), but competition is fairly fierce on ADSL. Current prices are around 100 USD a month for 2Mbps (down) / 512kbps (up).

Of course, there is still a monopoly on the "last mile" copper, but this is partially remedied by government oversight limiting what the monopoly can charge.
