Thomas Paine was an atheist. But he did a great service for freedom and I admire him for that.

But basically, you said Jefferson would be unhappy in modern day America because he would miss having slave girls around. You can say that isn't exactly what you said, and it isn't. But taken in the context that you were responding to, I think it is not a tremendous leap of logic to say that you are saying that Mr. Jefferson was a racist.

Since you are so slow to catch on, I will wait for your response to that before moving on.

The scurrility of the political press of the time is often nauseating, and the Democratic Republicans, being more "rabble rousing", were the worst. I remember reading some examples a few years ago and thinking that it made the last twenty years in Washington seem like a friggin' tea party........
