He's the leading scorer because he outlived god on the basketball court. "In his prime he averaged about 30 points per game"? The same is true
of Jordan. But there are two major differences:
-Jordan, unlike Kareem, was always in his prime. And no, that's not just a function of age--Kareem's 30-point era lasted about five years.
Jordan's lasted his entire career.

He's the leading scorer because he was the most upstoppable offensive force in NBA history. And, his incredibly long career was a testament to his amazing conditioning and strength. To take the pounding that a center does in the NBA year after year and come back for TWENTY seasons is amazing. Wilt lasted until 35. Kareem played (effectively, though his last season his numbers dropped considerably) until he was 41 or 42. The skyhook was an unblockable shot, and he hit it consistently better than 50% of the time (I would guess MUCH higher than that). Kareem's 30 point era (or should I say 25-30 point era) lasted about 15 of his 20 years in the game. He didn't need to score as much in the last years of Showtime so he toned it down. However, every time critics said he was done, he'd follow it with a 35 or 40 point performance. Jordon was one of the greatest. However, you're probably a little young to remember or appreciate Kareem's dominance.
