hi lonnie re, "we re-installed Visual Basic, deleted temp internet files, and emptied the recycle bin. Problem solved (for now!)"... music to my ears! <g3> problem solved! thanks for getting back with the solution. out of curiosity, and if you recall.... in the above steps, did you try re-installing vb, then check updates and it didn't work, so did the next thing, deleted temp int files, then checked, etc? or did you do all three and updates worked after that? and you're welcome for whatever help i may have provided. :) mark
