Yes. There was a time when comedians were not only funnier, but smart enough not to fall victim to "Streisend's Disease". Skelton, Hope, Gleason...Today we have idiots like Carlin.

Here's to the Marines!!!

Three days before he died at the age of 81, my Dad went dancing with my Mom. The band struck up "The Marines' Hymn." With uncharacteristic enthusiasm he declared: "Stand up everybody! That's the National Anthem!"

One of Dad's favorite possessions was the picture of the heavy cruiser "Northamption" steaming out of Pearl Harbor with Diamondhead in the background. He was part of the Marine contingent on the Northhampton. He never said if the ship was in port on December 7th, 1941. The Northampton was torpedoed by a Japanese destroyer off of Lunga Point on December 1, 1942.
