Globe says Ventra's white knight is Flex-N-Gate

Tue 19 Jun 2001
In the News

The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday edition that the unidentified
company negotiating to buy Ventra Group is Flex-N-Gate Corp., which is
Ventra's largest shareholder, according to sources familiar with the
takeover battle for the automotive parts company. Reporter Greg Keenan
notes that Flex-N-Gate has amassed about 19 per cent of the shares of
Ventra and it has acknowledged publicly that it looked at two non-core
assets Ventra put for sale earlier this year. The 19-per-cent stake was
purchased through 3051932 Nova Scotia Co., whose president, Timothy Graham,
refused to comment. Flex-N-Gate is a privately held company that already
has some operations in Canada and has grown in recent years in part because
of policies by Detroit-based auto makers trying to encourage the growth of
minority suppliers. Shahid Khan, president of Flex-N-Gate, said at Ventra's
annual meeting earlier this year that he was not sure if he wanted to buy
the whole company. Ventra announced on the weekend that it is in talks with
a white knight.
