No you don't agree, because there is no such thing as we. We does not cannot and never has existed. You are wrong, but I know what you intended: that "we" is not an organism--that "we" has no material existence. When I use "we" to refer to society, I am obviously referring to a collection of individuals, and the common interests these individuals share in addressing mutual concerns. In this case, the conceptual "we" is intended to convey an approach that recognizes the reality of the tribe. We is a figment of your imagination and while your so called we might kid and cajole itself that we are our brothers keepers. It's nothing more than abominable conceit. I said nothing about being my brother's keeper. You are thinking of Genesis again. There is a difference between "obligation"--and the practice, BY FREE AND UNCOERCED CHOICE in the pursuit of self interest--of mutually advantageous behaviours. Imposing your idea of dignity, which may be flawed on another, is undignified, second rate and mediocre Absolutely correct. I have never suggested imposing anything. Furthermore, I have made it clear time and again that "help" should follow upon request, not upon personal presumption. I absolutely respect the garbage pickers in my lane. If they ask for my help, I will consider it.
