What earnings reports there are next week will tend toward the salty. That especially applies to big investment banks, which will line up to rue a slump brought on by the excesses they helped foster. Goldman Sachs (GS) and Lehman Brothers (LEH) announce Tuesday, followed by Bear Stearns (BSC) on Wednesday and Morgan Stanley (MWD) on Thursday. And while Wall Street promotes next year's rebound, the analysts who cover Wall Street suffer from no such illusions: no member of this foursome is expected to match its 2000 earnings this year or the next.
