In re: "Forecast sunny at CDMA show (Hong Kong)"

"...the United States was well represented during many sessions by operators giving their opinions of network evolution paths for both CDMA and GSM protocols. The most telling was from AT&T Wireless Senior VP Jim Grams, who said next-generation operators need to focus on services that would be valued by their customers and not oversell the ability of the networks.

This strategy does appear to be difficult to adhere to if you have competitors who are bringing faster data rates to market sooner, like CDMA 1x technology,” Grams said.

Grams also continued AT&T’s support of EDGE technology, noting that while not much was happening with the development of the advanced TDMA service, carriers looking to deploy EDGE need to take a leadership position. And, while not admitting to any technology mistakes AT&T may have made along its path to 3G services, Grams admitted the carrier was not prepared for how rapidly CDMA 1x has hit the market.

“We got a little complacent,” Grams said. “We thought CDMA technology would take longer than it had. You usually can add a few years to vendor plans for technology, but,
you have to give credit to the 1x vendors for getting their products out on time...”

Are these quotes from a highly placed official representative of AT&T (who went all the way to Hong Kong to make them) the beginnings of a thaw from AT&T to CDMA? QCOM?

Could it be the beginnings of a change of heart or a late attempt to cover their corporate asses if all the bad news on wCDMA continues???

Although it may be premature to say so, these appear to be some very exciting quotes. Thank you for posting them.
