I'm concerned with the lack of any ability against a first strike against America.

We have a defense against such a strike: destruction by return post. It has worked 100% so far. Which is why anyone who wished to strike the US would never use something as traceable as an ICBM.

However, if we wished to strike first, a missile defense would be very useful against our enemy's response. Trust me, this thought has occurred to one or two people outside our borders. It is the kind of thought that might prove to be politically destabalizing.

As for paying the salaries of defense contractor employees, that's all very well, but don't you think it might be more productive for the economy if we paid them to do something useful, instead of work on this immense boondogle?
