Mark and all,

I'm stumped by the network fix. Things are getting worse not better. Unfortunately, I can't find any resources that spell out how to accomplish simple networking like putergeek that cover setting up XP with an existing 95 & 98 network.

Here's what I'm supposed to do:

Getting NetBEUI support on a fresh Windows XP installation 4/29/2001
NetBEUI support in Windows XP. It seems there's an unsupported method to get NetBEUI support back into XP. Here's how;
1) Copy NBF.SYS & NETNBF.INF from the Win2k installation to a floppy.
2) Remove all "CopyFile" & "DestinationDir" related comments from the INF.
3) Open network connections/properties/install/protocol/have disk/...
4) Add NetBEUI

I did that and netbeui protocol shows as installed. But it's unconfigurable (properties grayed out), and nothing shows on the network now, not even the local computer.

The nbf.inf editing was cryptic. There's "copyfiles" remarks, there's "cpyfile" remarks, there's multiple comments on the same line where some say destinationDirs and others seem unrelated. It's a long shot that I could ever do the right combination of editing. And if I did, how would I know other than everything just magically works.

Fortunately I did a dual boot install, and Win98 is working fine, network and all. Maybe I'll check into an XP forum when I get some time. OTH, I may just pass on the xp beta.
