Actually, we might be better off letting the libs take the initiative because the conservatives will vote those down. When compassionate conservatives take the initiative, the bills pass because the libs figure it's better than nothing.

Perhaps on the particular "compasionate conservative" ideas you may be right atleast in some cases. However compassionate conservatives are IMO less reliable allies of big government. Sometimes they push to actually shrink aspects of it. Liberals rarely do unless you are talking about military spending.
