Alternatives
Wind? What about the bird lovers ?
Hydro? How much more land and ecosystems will we screw up with that.
Fuel Cells? OK but many are currently geared towards more efficient fossil fuel use (GLE:TSE) until we have a viable H source. (ENER:Nasdaq) though is on the right track with hydrogen storage.
Camel dung for home heating won't fly in North America :o)

Personally though I'm looking forward to the day (not too far I hope) when I can live in the country (not hiding in Montanna LOL) and be self sufficient in energy, and have a high speed satellite link to provide communication and entertainment.
