OT - "are cars ruined when flooded or can they be o.k. after a good dry-out? " Ask me in 6 months! My car has comp. insurance, but not enough damage to meet the deductible, my daughter's has much more severe damage, but liability insurance only.

The common refrain around town is that if the dashboard (actually, the car's computer)is flooded, the car is totalled, no point in looking at it. All else go on a case-by-case basis. My car had no water in the oil or trans, so it looks like molded carpets might be the worst of it. Things like repacked wheel bearings and corroded wiring/switches for power seats etc. will have to be checked over time.

My daughter's car I haven't started looking at yet. I know that she had minimum of 4" water over her PRNDL and parking brake, so I'm bracing myself for a lot of work, if it can be salvaged at all. Since there's no insurance for the damage and no inclination on the part of her parents to buy a replacement, then by definition it will be repairable to some extent. I'll keep you posted.
