<<It's coming from human-initiated biomass burning in the indigenous world, and natural forest fires.>>

Well I'm so busy that I've barely have time to read the thread let alone further muddy the waters of all these somewhat contentious discussions.....but I'm an addict after all... :o)

CobaltBlue (I really like your moniker)
'The vast majority of greenhouse gases are not being emitted by the industrial world'
Is it possible that the forest fires are related to the constant perversion whoops diversion of so many major water courses in our insatiable desire for more hydro power ? That would put a
lot of blame back on us, n'est-ce pas ?
Besides what's going on in the Amazon is not so much 'slash and burn' so much as clear cutting to raise cattle. Slash and burn as 'practised' (Canuck don't you know) by the indigenous peoples had no real deleterious effect on the habitat as there weren't too many of them.

CB, I haven't heard you 'laff' lately !?
'What's the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe got to do with it?'
Isn't that a Tina Turner song ?

So this is what started some commotion LOL.
'If you only knew who you were dealing with.'
I take it you were actually not referring to yourself but to the gang on Wall Street ?
Don't go away just chill. You sounded a little too much like.......... Dr. Evil :o)

This one's for you west.

Hey Maurice,
Eugenics is crap. We have a range of IQ in the human species that's it, and the range occurs in ALL groups. We get screwed up by culture and religion etc. sometimes which can skew the average temporarily I imagine in sample populations.
'High IQ Japanese seem to do okay too [see GNP per capita]. So do high IQ Jews. '
Two siblings start a business. They're sharp and become millionaires a few times over. They have a few kids between them. The kids are all dull. The kids though all will inherit well. The
kids all easily find mates as they are not bad catches all in all. They inherit the business or proceeds of the sale of same. They are well off and dumb. (a true story :0)

Jews have a had a pretty rocky road (they are not alone of course,Armenians, Kurds....on and on) but maybe this drives them do set a higher standard for themselves ?
When I was growing up pretty well every neighbourhood (much to my chagrin) had a requisite Chinese laundry.
A lot of high IQ Chinese were not doing as well as they would in a more egalitarian world...just was.
The generations of French Quebecers before me had few businessman among them relative to the minority English, Scottish and Jewish populations. Every good French Catholic family
was told by the Church that business was evil and leave it to the others. Prepare your sons for the priesthood and to work the land ( the farms got smaller and smaller). The young
French Quebecers today are quite disdainful of the Church and do much better in business.

Point is within the human species high IQ is certainly better, all else being equal it would tend to be the ultimate selector,... but until all else is equal it is only one of a myriad of
variables. Of course all else may never be equal either, actually I'd bet on it. (Not foaming :0)

One of my favorite sayings.

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts,
build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure,
program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

Edit why is my post so mal aligned .......

The point isn't missed at all... they've known that for years! Hello??? Burning down the house yes... but the natives? ROFLMAO... McDonalds more likely... so yes, SUV drivers quaffing hamburgers!

The point is... why shouldn't the people of S. America or whatever do what we've already done?? The point is we've supposedly got much more [materially speaking] to lose. You think THEY give a rats a$s about OUR air?? LOL, that's the point.

<How would that work, exactly?>

Won't, I'm sure... but then nothing else will either... so when THEY all have SUV's, and oxygen production is redistributed accordingly we'll revisit.
