What seems obvious to some doesn't seem obvious to others.

Not everybody on SI is as educated about the ins and outs of bulletin boards as you are. It isn't unreasonable to believe that if you can point to a link which brings up a profile for modification, that you also have access to it. Totally different, IMO, from a monkey coming up on an "FBI file" which is obviously a joke.

I once played a joke on a person, I thought. Wrote out a totally absurd "complaint" for a lawsuit against them for something they had done to me. They had taken out on a date a girl I was interested in. I wrote up a complaint charging them, as I recall, with "tortious interference with a prospective amatory relationship," and asking that they be permanently restrained from every speaking to or having any relationship with the girl again and demanding that they pay for a weekend at a top hotel for me and her.

I thought anybody with any sense would have known it was a joke.

They didn't. I lost a friend for good over that.

Taught me a lesson -- not everybody sees the joke in things that are obvious jokes to those who do them.

(Heck, just recall the suit over Jeff's April Fools joke a year or two ago.)
