AGIL news from today,

SMTC Deploys Agile as Collaborative Manufacturing Solution
SAN JOSE, Calif. and TORONTO, Jun 18, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- As industry analysts predict a continual increase in outsourced manufacturing, maintaining a competitive advantage is imperative for Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) providers. To that end, SMTC Corporation (Nasdaq: SMTX chart, msgs; TSE: SMX chart, msgs) has implemented a solution from Agile Software (Nasdaq: AGIL chart, msgs) to help customers introduce new products more rapidly, provide fast return on investment (ROI) and significantly improve collaboration between SMTC and its suppliers, customers, and internal divisions worldwide.

SMTC Corporation, one of the world's top EMS providers, has begun rolling out Agile Anywhere(TM) to the first of what will be more than 1000 subscribers, at its headquarters and manufacturing operation in Markham, Ontario and also at SMTC's design and manufacturing center in Appleton, Wisconsin. The software will be deployed at all other SMTC sites throughout the USA and Europe to enable collaboration on critical product content across the entire supply chain network.

Agile Anywhere is a complete suite of collaborative manufacturing solutions that enable manufacturers to build private product manufacturing collaboration exchanges, totally automating the distribution and synchronization of product content across the e-supply chain, with all information and services available through Agile eHubs(TM). At MyAgile.com(TM), Agile also provides the dispersed supply chain with mission-critical eServices such as online marketplaces, custom part procurement, wireless access, and components research.

"With SMTC becoming more geographically distributed, Agile's collaborative manufacturing solution enables seamless communication with our supply chain network," said Gary Itenson, Senior Vice President of Supplier Strategy and Procurement at SMTC. "With the help of Agile, SMTC provides significant value to our customers by decreasing the time it takes to get new products to market."

This solution enables SMTC and its OEM customers who are also Agile users to easily create packages of product content information, such as bills of material (BOM), build diagrams, and assembly and test instructions, in the industry-standard PDX (Product Data eXchange) format. Using Agile eXpress, an eService on MyAgile.com, they can send packages of product DNA between their Agile eHubs, view the documents, and respond to requests and new information from each other in Internet time. Agile Anywhere provides the common link between complex environments to provide greater visibility and immediate collaboration on product content and changes.

"Agile ensures that our entire supply chain is synchronized on the same bills of material and that changes are recognized," said Frank Ip, Director of Business Systems at SMTC. "Visibility into changes or missing product content eliminates costly manufacturing delays."

Carol Schrader, Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Agile, added, "As a leading EMS provider, SMTC's expertise and value-added services are key differentiators to its customers. Agile's collaborative manufacturing solution will enhance SMTC's service offering by strengthening superior customer responsiveness and improving ramp to production."

Goldman believes BEA Systems (NASDAQ: BEAS - Quotes, News, Boards) and Veritas Software (NASDAQ: VRTS - Quotes, News, Boards) are attractively valued after a significant sell-off that is overdone. The broker views these companies as the best-positioned names in the infrastructure-software space, and thinks the two companies will be among the first to bounce back once the macroeconomic environment stabilizes.
