Dan, that sounds like a drowning man post if there was such a thing. Those new Tualatins will be right out there for sale pronto from the big guns, while AMD is inside Alienware, Boxx, Rackspace and SAG Electronics.

Blow Hard Dan - Re: "I notice Intel already cancelled one new FAB, "

Hey - the fact that Intel is completing three new fabs - Fab 22, Fab 11x and D1C isn't siginificant in your blow hard mind?

By the way - it appears AMD has DELAYED their FAB 35 plans !!!

AMD - FAB 35 - DELAYED DELAYED DELAYED !!

Blow Hard Dan - re: "Isn't much point in building more new FABs since it's turned out that Intel hasn't got anything worthwhile to make in them."

Looks like Intel has a real demand for ITanium chips to build in them !!

Too bad AMD only has a 64 bit simulator !!!

But API gets it in the neck
By Mike Magee, 18/06/01 10:00:46 BST

INTEL ITANIC processors are in short supply and that's because there's demand for them in the channel, The Inquirer can report.
But the reason why there's demand for them in the channel is complicated and involves system integrators' most unfavourite company right now, API.

As we have reported here earlier, Samsung, which together with Compaq made that joint venture called Alpha Processors Ink, wants to spin API off, hopefully late summer or perhaps in autumn, when everything is looking rosier.

API has not done very well supplying sufficient 833MHz Alphas to satisfy demand, and quite a few of its customers have gorn off and decided to build dual Athlon systems instead.

While over in North America things have moved from API to Athlon, that isn't the situation in Japan, where OEMs have switched from API chips to two way Itanics. Yes!

And there are customers gagging for supplies of the processor, running Linux-like flavours, which is why the Itanic is suddenly in short supply.

So, through the wonders of commerce, we have finally written the most positive Itanic story ever. Shock! µ
