Martin,

<<I don't recollect *ever* seeing such a sparring amongst investment houses as we are seeing now...QUI BONO?

Why are some trashing without differentiation? The question answers itself, I believe.>>

It's quite good and well that we get to see the sparring. It's like watching people argue with the most rational and succinct, not to mention persuasive, debater either confirming or altering your own opinion. In the GX debate, some will side with SSB's Grubman and others will buy First Union's argument. It's good to see all this picking apart. One thing about it, you can observe weak analysts getting paid to write badly thought out opinions. We're watching the men being separated from the boys.

Certainly part of the sparring has something to do with cultivating future investment banking business. So, undifferentiated trashing is probably part this and part bad rationalization of a complex situation. Also, all these downgrades, like usual, are way after the fact and proof that most analysts are paid to be worthless, doing no favors for their clients. The downgrading houses are also giving themselves a way to upgrade in the future, probably long after the stock has doubled or tripled.

Looks like total capitulation the past couple of days. Lots of fear, hee hee hee. It would be tough to lose buying now.
