I was on vacation when a lot of the Unicom Horizon contracts came down. There are a few changes that I am not sure how it happened.

1) when did they change from 13.3M capacity to 15M?

2) I thought Unicom was planning a cheapo IS95 system all along. When did they switch to what appeared to be the largest 1Xable network before the end of the year?

Some other observations. We all know the numbers now so it will not be repeated here. The fact remains that Unicom is building out a network, which can be economically upgraded to CDMA2000, at a cost per sub of just a little more than what the carriers paid for 3G spectrum in UK and Germany per POP.

I recall a few months ago that some high level person of Docomo, in an interview, opined that where China goes, the rest will follow. (anyone remember this interview and have a link?) It now appears China is fully behind the CDMA drive with marketing campaigns matching that of the western world.

A player that is conspicously absent is NOK. Not intending to bash NOK but it is important to watch the answer to this challenge, from the GPRS-EDGE-UMTS camp. It seems to me if they do not start some counter move soon, the game is finally over.
