pgerassi:

Re: "There are certain coding conventions that simply require human tweaking when porting to 64-bit operating systems, regardless of the compiler", is pure BS.

I stand by my original statement. I aid ISVs in their Itanium porting efforts, and it is quite common to have to hand-modify the source code to fix some of these problems (i.e. incorrect use of pointers, new/revised Win64 windows functions, non-ANSI C prototype usage, hard-coded "size" values, out-of-date conditional compilation macros, etc.). I don't understand some of the public's reluctance (probably non-engineers) to port and optimize an application to achieve better performance on a target platform.
