Sunk Cost, redux - The Last Investor Standing

Hi Crossy,

The PSTN may be paid for, but the PTTs of Europe are all on the hook for the insane auction costs associated with UMTS. So the landline side of the business will suffer because of the flawed vision of the future of wireless comms by the PTT's executive suites. Robbing Peter to pay Paul, is one way to describe it, or maybe "debt is fungible".

Where are all these new investors going to come from? Anyone who has paid the least bit of attention the last few years realizes the stock markets are rigged, manipulated to inflict the maximum pain on the naive retail investor. Surely you aren't going to find a new class of suckers who will have enough capital to keep feeding this machine. The revulsion of most intelligent outsiders will keep the lid on the stock markets for a very long time. Think 1929-1954, then 1968-1983. These are long periods of time and my point is that had you entered the market in 1929 or 1968, you'd just be breaking even on the latter dates. Think how that makes intelligent folks on Main Street consider the shady games of Wall Street.

Re: LMDS/MMDS - I don't know what costs are like in your area, but hereabouts this isn't even remotely cost effective for residential applications. The cheapest rate I've seen on any radio link like this is $500/mo. Suitable only for institutions and commercial operations with medium to high bandwidth needs.
