Dell Expands Choices On All-In-One Latitude Notebook Latitude C800 Delivers Affordable Performance With Choice of Screen Size, Processor Speed
AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 19, 2001--Dell (Nasdaq:DELL - news) today announced a new configuration on its wireless-ready(a) Latitude(tm) C800 all-in-one notebook for users who need all the essentials of a desktop replacement portable computer at an affordable price.
``Many small business and education customers want the mobility and flexibility of an all-in-one notebook, but not necessarily the leading edge high-performance features that are commonly associated with these desktop replacements,'' said Anthony Bonadero, director of marketing, Latitude notebooks. ``For these users, the Latitude C800 delivers price performance configurations that feature smaller displays and mid-range processors.''
With a base price of $2,059(b), new features available on the wireless-ready Latitude C800 include a bright 14.1-inch SXGA+ display and an Intel(tm) Mobile Pentium(tm) III processor at 800MHz. A high-density 14.1-inch SXGA+ display provides almost 35 percent more viewing area than a 12.1-inch XGA display, and displays 87 percent more information on the screen at one time.
The most versatile Latitude ever, the C800 includes integrated 802.11b wireless capabilities, both trackpads and trackstick pointing devices, a permanent CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD or CD-RW/DVD combination device, plus a traditional Latitude C-family modular bay and a hard disk drive. A full set of high-speed video ports -- like IEEE 1394 -- and audio ports allows easy connections to a variety of devices and provides a faster, more productive means to create, transfer and present robust multimedia presentations. The C800 maintains Dell's cost-effective tradition of backward compatibility with all Latitude C-family media modules, peripherals and docking solutions.
Dell is also offering the largest, fastest and quietest hard disk drives available on notebook computers on all Latitude C800 notebooks. With the new 48GB hard drive, mobile users who work with CAD/CAM applications, financial models and databases, and large multimedia files will appreciate the higher performance and increased productivity. According to IBM, the new drive features:
ATA-100 capability (50 percent higher throughput than ATA-66) 5400 RPM (28 percent faster than 4200 RPM) Noise-reduction features: Sound-dampening padding to reduce vibrations Fluid spindle vs. ball bearings between platters 48 GB Capacity (enough to hold 12 DVD movies) All Latitudes are supported by Dell Services, which can help lower customers' cost of computing with a full suite of award-winning computing services including deployment and after-sale support. Featured services for the Latitude C600 and C500 notebooks include CompleteCare(tm) -- Dell's most comprehensive repair and replacement service(c) for notebook computer users. Complete information on Dell Services is available at www.dell.com/services.
Base configuration also includes 128 MB SDRAM, a 10-GB hard disk drive(d), integrated 56k v.90 modem(e), ATI M4 Mobility 128 (4X AGP) graphics with 16 MB SGRAM, Dell's DualPoint technology, fixed 24X maximum CD-ROM drive, floppy diskette drive, Microsoft® Windows® 2000 and three-year next-business-day onsite service(f).
