"Communist and former communist countries have higher rates."

Columbia, Brazil, Chile, and Peru are all in the top ten, Tim. So why are you quibbling that abortion being performed at "one of the highest levels in the world" is not true? Are you just trying to be quarrelsome?

They are perhaps in the top 10 but apparently not in the top 6. I guess that could fit "at one of the highest levels", as long as it is clear that they are not at the highest levels. Its interesting to see that your list is all Latin American and mine is all communist or former communist. It seems obvious to me that in neither of our lists is the legal status of abortion the most important simularity. Other cultural and historical reasons are more likely to explain the high abortion rates in both groups of countries.

Also, that the religious opposition was not reducing abortions, but only endangering mothers-

You have little evidence to back up that assumption. Abortion rates even in those countries could be still higher without the religious opposition. It is also likely that in other countries with lower rates that religious opposition reduces the number of abortions. You have shown that religous opposition does not eliminate abortion but I never maintained that it did.

I find it extremely disturbing that women are being forced to have abortions. It is reprehensible.

I figured you would be disturbed by it. There are atleast some areas were we are in complete agreement.
