Don, this parasite theory has merit imo. it certainly helps to explain why the USSR led socialistic systems took so long to go splat. and Europe's democratic socialists leave just enough of the free market alive so that they can milk it for what it's worth. talked to an Austrian lawyer yesterday about the taxation and regulation backdrop in Austria...it's absolutely frightening. every year the federal parliament alone produces 10,000 printed pages of new regulations...try starting a business here, it's a nightmare. one wonders how business survives at all. many people are forced to make money illegally (i.e. circumventing taxation) so they can afford paying the taxes they do declare.
