Sudan: From Yahoo's Talisman Message Board today

by: Longnholding
And all those talk-gooders will be happy that the evil Canadians are forced out of the Sudan - leaving the people of the southern Sudan to the tender mercies of the CNPC and the engineering battalions of the People's Liberation Army.

Of course, then the U.S. could threaten China with sanctions and name-calling. Well anyway, name-calling.

I'd be happy, Talisman shares would go up in price. China would be happy, they'd get a grip on a major untapped oil reserve. The Khartoum government would be happy, they'd get more weapons and less interference. Garang would be happy, he'd get more CIA money.

So a few million people would be starved and brutalized even more than presently. It's a small price to pay for all that happiness.

Don't look for Sudan to be sold anytime soon. This is not going to become law, a companion bill in the Senate doesn't even exist. Buckee's statement of willingness to dump Sudan "if necessary" serves to quiet the nerves of jittery US investors and its already working.

There will be no pressing need to sell Sudan and, as someone insightfully pointed out awhile back, it serves well as a poison pill. Still, I think dumping Sudan would be good for TLM shareholders but bad for Sudan as Longnholding says. Smooth moves by Buckee. More reason why he's in the big chair and grizzcub is in clicksville.
