Hi Jacob,

Oh I think it works, but the old entrenched players go slow. They don't know fast competition. They are capitalized and can last forever. They use money as a weapon to perpetuate their comfortable ivory tower.

Take the car business. GM buils great big trucks and cars. They got their head handed to them every time they try to build a small car. That's what Japanese dealers do so well for decades.Competition gets tough - what happens? GM buys 40% of Isuzu and Suzuki. They now have joined with Fiat to buy up Daewoo - the new cheap car builder. They make Japanese builders look expensive. They are building big in China to tap that low cost labor pool and huge market. All these ventures will import new cheap cars rebadged and sold in GM dealerships.

Their entrenched and massive reserves allow them to squeeze out the next wave of competition, Yet americans will get small fuel efficient cars built by and imported the best small car manufacturers. It is an efficient system.

Same thing with planes - we all fly more and it is cheaper. So deregulation 20 years ago has evolved into a better deal fo us all.

The quicker you deregulate the quicker gradual change evolves.
