Want to kill a thread- -any thread- -fast? Restrict it to policy discussions and discussions of technical matters such as nuclear weapons defence policy, etc. That'll do it. Those types of discussions should certainly be allowed, but subjects should be considerably wider and should include current events and politics. At least if you want a thread that will stay alive. Want to prove it? Start your new thread and restrict it to policy wonk topics and allow no shots at Dumb George or Jenna Bush. See how long it lasts. Want more proof? Go look at LWP. It did something like that. It's moribund. I wasn't interested in the dogs and SUV discussions (although I love dogs) but they didn't bother me either. Think of this sort of thing as breathing room.
