yep...it's a very similar development, only this time it's closer to home for the US. already the Brazilian sur-real is in absolute free-fall...and Argentina's introduction of a 'commercial' peso is an invitation to speculators to attack their currency board. i predict it will collapse sooner or later...when that happens, the devaluation spiral will accelerate the same way it did in SE Asia. imagine the potential losses...one fifth of all emerging market sovereign bonds are Argentine dollar bonds. the IMF only papered over the LatAm crisis in early '99...it's now re-asserting itself.
