I think the theory is nuts. The downside is too big.

Re: "Scientists have found an unusual way to prevent our planet overheating: move it to a cooler spot. All you have to do is hurtle a few comets at Earth, and its orbit will be altered. Our world will then be sent spinning into a safer, colder part of the solar system."

Same could also be accomplished if we moved the entire population of Earth to the state of Washington for one month.

These guys can't find Mars with a rocket. How are they going to find the right spot and then move the whole friggin planet to the right spot in multiple stages?

There might be an easier way. First deploy a gigantic rigid curtain made up of 5, 10 or whatever percent of solar cells deemed necessary to provide whatever cooling the earth needed. The curtain would be as close to the earth/moon system as possible and in an orbit around the sun parallel to earth's orbit. A few strategically located solar-powered ion thrusters to keep everything positioned properly and voila'. The resultant shade would cool things down and the solar energy trapped by the cells could be beamed to microwave receivers on the oceans away from populations for safety and distributed from there to wherever needed or wanted.

The article also stated that the Sun would cause serious problems in about a billion years. The longest any species has lasted on earth is about 300 million years. If, and that's a very large IF, humans are still around in a billion years, I'm sure they will figure something out by then. If not, screw em. hehehe
