Tony:

Re: Infiniband

This is quite surprising to me as well. One of the accounts I used to assist was planning a similar Infiniband launch demo, but it was scheduled for much later than June. I haven't been following Infiniband at Intel as closely in the past few months, but it sure seems like things have sped up.

Tony - Re: "You may well be right on. Do you think you can explain this concept to Joe Osha? "

Nope.

Osha is a disciple of Kurlak - and he sees only bad things for Intel - and therefore he sees only god things for AMD.

I still love Osha's STRONG BUY on TI (TXN) late last year at $49 - as it tumbled into the $20s.

Tony - Re: ". I was impressed at the magnitude of the demo at this stage of Infiniband's life: a five node cluster running database software communicating via a fabric switch with Infiniband in it. Here's another opportunity for Intel to make money "

This will be a direct and indirect opportunity.

Direct - by selling Infiniband components.

Indirect (and the LARGER OPPORTUNITY) - to sell more Intel Server CPUs as Intel-based CPUs with Infiniband will offer performance enhancements - and penetrate new markets for Intel.
