OT- You'll have to tell me the secret to growing okra. I have the damnest time trying to grow it here. I plant a row(30 or 40 seeds) and only a dozen or so come up, and usually only half of those make it to maturity. This year was a total failure- Only 5-6 came up, and they ALL died on me. We did have a late cold snap, but it wasn't cold enough to kill any peppers or tomatoes, so I really haven't a clue. They turned brown, and just died.

Was told to soak the seed overnite before planting, which I've done for the past few yrs, but that only increases the # that sprout. So what am I doing wrong here? My neighbor has the same problems with okra. So it would make us both happy to figure this out. <g>

BTW- I use newspaper covered w/ grass clippings in certain between row areas, and that really works well. And Brookelise- Blood Meal should keep the rabbits and deer away from your plants- just sprinkle some around the plants occasionally..
