So, the .18 FABs they finished building last year are already on the writeoff list, (they're need .13 to build PIIIs) now here come the comm acquisition writeoffs: Dan, you're really starting to sound very shrill, and the cohesion of your arguments has really started to drop off. Intel built a grand total of one fab for the 0.18 micron ramp... that was the fab in Israel. Just to let you know what the lifetime of Intel's fabs even running older processes is, I do believe there is still a 6" fab in Israel... still generating revenue... Just because "lead products" won't be on a process, doesn't mean that the fab is written off or it is an entry on the loss side of the balance sheet. It seems you're sacrificing quality of information and analysis to take cheap shots... hardly a recipe for debating success.

Intel's 0.18 micron fabs will be emminently capable of manufacturing Intel's XScale CPUs, DSPs, CHip Sets (which may account for about 100 million chips per year !!), Ethernet chips ( 10/100 and 1000 MHz !), etc. Your problem, Monica, is that you think IOntel is just like AMD - a ONE DIMENSIONAL PLAIN VANILLA ONE PRODUCT OMNE MARKET COMPANY. How you can continually demonstrate your STUPIDITY and IGNORANCE on a daily basis is beyond me. Yet you do set new LOWS for intelligence - on a daily basis. Paul
