Remember Iridium just crashed and burned their satellites rather than give them away for pennies.

That is factually incorrect. The Iridium system is actually still in operation under new owners, and the sats were not in fact de-orbited.

I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that iridium sold the satellites and the new company is selling services mostly for military contracts. I doubt very much that the creditors would have allowed the company to simply destroy assets, pennies on the dollar are better than nothing.
