All AMD achieved when they moved from 250nm to 180nm was a measly 7% gain in clock speeds. The key word is "initially".

Gopher,

I predicted about 6 months back that the 0.13u transition would produce minimal performance gain, and was severely thrashed over the prediction by many on this thread.

It is possible that the 180nm process happens to already have the thermal advantages of the 130nm process, and that new process merely improves on the speedpaths
