The Boy Scouts have come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks.

The Los Angeles City Council voted 11 to 0 to cut the city's ties with the Boy Scouts of America, saying the group's exclusion of homosexuals and atheists was discriminatory. The council instructed the Los Angeles Police Department to dismantle its Explorers unit, a Boy Scouts-affiliated police cadet training program for young people, within 90 days, and create an alternative, said Laura Esquivel, assistant to Councilwoman Jackie Goldberg, a gay rights activist who heads the city's personnel committee and was a major backer of the measure. In addition, the city's department of Parks and Recreation will, in the future, charge the Boy Scouts a fee to use its facilities for camping and other activities, Esquivel said.

The Fort Lauderdale, Florida, City Commission denied the Boy Scouts $10,000 in funding for an in-school program to aid children who are at-risk and disabled! The Miami Herald reported that the Boy Scouts are "under siege". Plus, The New York Times reported that major cities like Chicago, San Francisco, and San Jose have denied the Boy Scouts access to city parks, while companies such as Textron “have withdrawn hundreds of thousands of dollars in support to local scouting groups.”

Local United Way chapters are cutting off funding to the Boy Scouts -- with no end in sight. A troop of young Boy Scouts were even loudly booed while making a presentation on the stage of the Democratic National Convention!

The major attacks began after the Boy Scouts WON their Supreme Court case.

This summer, the Boy Scouts won a hard-fought case before the U.S. Supreme Court called Dale v. Scouts. The Supreme Court affirmed the Boy Scouts’ right to set standards for leadership within their organization. This apparently infuriated the “politically correct” cultural elites. Almost immediately, the anti-Scout campaign was launched, with the Boy Scouts being branded as “intolerant.”

Anti-Scout rallies were recently held in 36 cities and 21 states.

A coalition of anti-Scout groups organized a series of nationwide rallies under the banner “Scouting For All” to put even more pressure on the Boy Scouts. Protesters displayed signs such as “Bigoted Scouts of America” (a spin on “BSA”) and “Stop Teaching Hate.” 58,000 petitions were delivered by anti-Scout activists to Boy Scout headquarters in Irving, Texas.

The federal government is leading the attack on the Boy Scouts.

The Washington Times first revealed that the Departments of Interior and Justice were working to identify questionable Boy Scout activities in light of President Bill Clinton’s Executive Order (#13160). Issued in June of last year, the EO banned discrimination based on “sexual orientation” in federal education and training programs. An Interior Department memorandum of 8/15/00 makes it clear that the federal government was targeting the Boy Scouts and the Boy Scouts alone (all seven items listed pertain directly to the Boy Scouts). Attorney General Janet Reno quickly tried to back pedal, but it is clear that the federal government has turned hostile to the Boy Scouts.

We want to present a QUARTER MILLION petitions to congress and the new administration encouraging them to pass the "Scouts Honor Act".

The Boy Scouts are one of America’s great institutions!

Since the Boy Scouts began in the United States in 1916, the Boy Scouts has been one of America’s most respected institutions. In fact, the President of the United States traditionally serves as the honorary head of the Boy Scouts. More than 6 million American children and adults are actively involved in Scouting today, with tens of millions more having participated over the years. Internationally, Scouting reaches 28 million people in 216 countries and territories.

Several key actions against the Boy Scouts are pending right now!

The anti-Scout sentiment is sweeping across local governments, major businesses as well as area United Way campaigns. This is no accident. Anti-Scout groups are making a targeted effort to cripple the Boy Scouts.

The city of Los Angeles has already voted to sever all ties with the Boy Scouts. And right now, Fort Lauderdale officials are moving ahead with anti-Scout rulings. Plus, the state of Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities has already issued a ruling to make the Boy Scouts ineligible for participation in the United Way contribution program for state employees. The Connecticut Commission will also issue a ruling to answer the question: "Does the BSA and/or its local councils’ policy or policies on sexual orientation violate any state anti-discrimination statute" shortly.

The “politically correct” elite will ignore us -- unless we ignite a nationwide “grassfire” that gets their attention!

The pressure is mounting against the Boy Scouts. Let’s join together and take a stand! Sign the petition today and help us meet our goal of exceeding the 55,000 anti-Scout petitions gathered by Scout opponents. We can do it if everyone adds their “spark” to the grassfire!

THANK YOU FOR HELPING SPREAD THE GRASSFIRE!

<<We have a thing we say about getting an Eagle. You gotta do it before 16 or 17 because at around 16 or 17 every boy succumbs to "The Fumes." At that age they get to drive and are figuratively assaulted by the car fumes,>>

I have a friend whose son became an Eagle Scout in March. He'll be starting college, or has started, this summer. He skipped the car phase, started taking flying lessons before he could drive.
