<< Re:World Cup -Rough numbers are 750 million worldwide viewers of the Super Bowl (with 130 million in the US), and 40
billion viewers worldwide for World Cup.

Aren't there only about 6.5 billion people on this planet? >>

The Super Bowl is ONE event. It lasts 3-4 hours. The World Cup is numerous games that go on for several weeks. The 40 billion number, if it has any basis in reality whatsoever, must count each viewer of each game separately. Thus, if a person watches 20 games, he would be counted as 20 viewers. Even with such liberal counting 40 billion seems high.

Nontheless, the World Cup is HUGE. Much bigger, on a world wide basis, than the Super Bowl and World Series combined. Other countries, unlike the U.S., invite other countries to participate when they have a world championship.

I have several Irish friends, and live near Mexico. Believe me, the World Cup is HUGE to both groups, even bigger than the Olympics.

This will be great for CDMA2000 and the companies that support it. I would hope to see heavy advertising for 3G phones -- "follow the World Cup on your cell phone from work, school, the subway, etc." A whole advertising campaign could be based on this one theme. Let us hope we see it.
