Wednesday June 20, 4:01 pm Eastern Time Press Release SOURCE: Asia Global Crossing Yahoo! Broadband Selects Asia Global Crossing IP Transit Service For Its International Backbone "New Yahoo! BB Service 'Powered by Asia Global Crossing' Brings Users the Fastest IP Network in Japan" TOKYO, June 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Asia Global Crossing announced today that Yahoo! BB, a broadband service provided by Softbank Group and Yahoo! Japan, will be ``Powered by Asia Global Crossing.'' Yahoo! BB has selected Asia Global Crossing's high-speed IP Transit service as its main international backbone. With multiple Gigabit Ether connections, Yahoo! BB will use IP Transit to better meet anticipated demand created by its recently announced ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line) high-speed Internet access and portal services offerings.
(Photo: newscom.com ) Yahoo! BB offers end-users broadband services such as high-speed internet connection services on the world's fastest ADSL access line, as well as portal services, including broadband content such as images and music, network competitive games, and online education.
Asia Global Crossing was selected because it owns a private high-speed network able to handle high-volume, burstable broadband user traffic driven by services like ADSL. Since its launch last year, IP Transit has been adopted by many major ISPs because the service can handle large volumes of data reliably and is cost-effective.
Softbank President Masayoshi Son said, ``With an expected one million subscribers by year-end, Yahoo! BB needed an international bandwidth provider that could offer high-speed, highly reliable connectivity on a global and regional scale. We concluded that Asia Global Crossing's IP Transit is the best solution. Yahoo! BB 'Powered by Asia Global Crossing' allows us to offer the broadband users in Japan the highest level of high-speed connectivity at a low price.''
Asia Global Crossing President and Chief Executive Officer John J. Legere said, ``It is a great honor to have IP Transit selected as the main international IP backbone of Yahoo! BB, which provides the world's fastest class of broadband environment on ADSL. Since IP Transit first went into service last April, it has been adopted as a backbone by many international ISPs as well as major Japanese ISPs including So-net, BIGLOBE, @NetHome and Usen. We hope to further contribute to the spread of broadband in Japan and worldwide, as well as continue to support increasing international traffic with our high-speed network.''
