But Scum, those aren't the real numbers and you know it. Net interest payments were $206 billion for the year, not $362 billion.

"This is a travesty of wasted taxpayer money"

So what you are saying (it sounds like) is that the gov't spent too much money to create the debt (Reagan's fault in your view, right?) so now we should spend more tax payer's money to pay that off.

This is where it gets tricky for me, but I will see if I can follow your logic through on this. You feel that higher income Americans should pay for the over spending mentioned above (you realize lower paid Americans don't pay Fed tax, right?) so there will be no interest payments to hurt this same group of tax payers you are so concerned about. Then you will trust the government not to over spend in the future.

Sounds good, but I think you are a bit gullable. I think we would be better off by letting the group you are concerned about (high income Americans) KEEP more of their money so they can keep our growth and prosperity going. That way the debt will be lowered over time and we will create a sustainable trend of non-deficit spending.

Sound ok? Or do we feel we should raise taxes to relieve you of this unbearable burden?
Scott
