Ish, I can see catch and release on Bass and other game fish, but why catch and release on a cat?

Have you tried circle hooks for cats? I release most of mine and the circle hooks only dig in at the edge of the mouth.

Its funny you mention this. I use a kind of curling hook, Eagle Claw, that is quite like a circle hook. It takes 'em right at the mouth corner. Makes it easy to dispatch them.

We got about fifteen decent cats tonight (last night now), most of them we threw back. We kept a handful for dinner tonight. I'll be making that recipe. I caught a huge fella. Some folks guessed he prolly weighed about 14 pounds. Threw him back. Shad were all over the place. We gathered them and took cats with them. I just got in. Very tired. Getting too dang old to do this much more. I used to be able to fly down to Virginia, fish until dawn, fly back home and still go to work fresher than a lily. Now, I really feel it. My older sons are up telling Milton Berle jokes as if they've just awakened.

I've been out once this year and it was windy...

It was touchy weather on the way down. But it cleared enough to let me through. Once we began fishing the weather diced up again. Rain showers, thunder and lightning -- the works. It blew over, but man for a while there we were considering ditching the trip.
