Jim,

John Chamber has repeatedly said that this slowdown is
a great opportunity for Cisco to break away from the pack.

Cisco is making good strides in AVVID, also in core routers
they are coming up with new products (GSR124xx for example).

They may not get $35 billion revenues but I am positive that
will get more market share both in enterprise and carrier
space ...

Could be good, could be bad.

Depends on cause versus effect.

If Nortel's woes for example are because nobody is buying their spiffy equipment, then it is entirely possible that Cisco will have equally spiffy equipment unpurchased.

If however it is because they have spoofy equipment and Cisco has spiffy equipment, and customers demand the spiffy stuff... well then it bodes well for Cisco.

We shall see, won't we?

Jim,

May be a great breakaway opportunity here?

With NT, LU and JNPR all missing estimates, I would venture to say that it will get more competitive. Those 3 will be agressive in closing deals.

However, one thing is that Cisco no long just makes routers anymore. Cisco is also competing with RSTN, EXTR and FDRY in GbE switches and metro gear.

I think the next couple of Qs are going to be tough for Cisco. I'm not buying, just staying on the sidelines watching my money grow at like 3.25%/year.
