06:16 ET Asian Markets : Nikkei +2.27%, Hang Seng +2.08% -- Asian stocks mixed, but Japan closed sharply higher. Nikkei posted biggest gain in seven weeks. Banking stocks outperformed after the government said that the Resolution and Collection Corp (RCC) should be allowed to purchase non-performing loans that banks fail to write off over the next three years. Export shares also fared well, with Cannon tacking on 3%, while Honda gained 2%. Hong Kong also closed more than 2% higher with bank and property shares outperforming. However, Taiwan fell to a one-month low with semiconductor stocks under pressure, while similar concerns weighed on Korea’s Kospi, which failed to push above the psychologically important 600 level.
