Good article JAPG. It is interesting that only now are the brokerage houses, major financial publications (other than Barrons) addressing the issue of options programs artificially inflating earnings and cash flow. Did Merrill Lynch analysts just suddenly figure out this options game was going on? I can't help but think that analysts at most brokerage houses have been aware of this game for a long time, but that it has been yet another wink, wink don't tell type of thing between the brokerage houses and the companies they hype.
