On your additions:

1) Japan, no matter how hard it tried, has been unable to kick start its economy. Its petrochemical plants were dismantled, shipped to Indonesia and other SE Asian countries. Its low valued added electronics goods followed.

Now they are shipping industries to China. There is not much left in there to create a momentum to reignite the Japanese economy.

2) I am a baby boomer (BB). My main worry is avoiding capital destruction rather than making more money on my investments. Now if we imagine the amount of BBs -who have much more money than myeself, mind you- and you imagine that they may be reacting in a similar way like i am doing, this is something that can amke a quite a big impact on the market.

I keep in mind that some species get extinct in every kind of environment.
