carranza,

<< Nokia appears to have overstepped the mark and angered CDMA proponents >>

Ah that old chestnut.

I like this one:

CDMA supporters are also disturbed by Nokia's suggestion that 1xEV-DV (data and voice), the CDMA standard backed by Nokia and Motorola, will be available by the end of the year, before Qualcomm's 1xEV-DO (data only) is deployed in 2002. They point out that the ITU has not even standardized 1xEV-DV and the technology is still undergoing a balloting process at the CDG. Although standardization could be achievable by year-end, it is unlikely that any products would be available in the same time frame.

This is what the Nokia paper says - exactly:

"The 1Xev-DV (data and voice) CDMA standard is expected to be available by the end of 2001, with a number of technology options still under consideration.

Now this is what Herschel says in his whitepaper paid for and released by CDG:

"CDMA2000 1x EV-DV (Evolution-Data and Voice) lies further in the future. During the first quarter of 2001, Motorola demonstrated the technology and together with Nokia, Philips Semiconductors, and Texas Instruments proposed a standard. At that time, the group anticipated that the standard would be set in May 2001. The end of year 2001 now appears more likely."

Now WTF ??????

Now either "CDMA supporters" can't read, read selectively (I have sure witnessed that), or a journalist has taken poetic license with the facts.

I also like this one:

CDG ... management is considering circulating Nokia's white paper among its membership to engender the correct emotions before a wholesale consultation.

Maybe they should also clip quotes from the SI Qualcomm threads to really stoke the emotions. <g>

Meantime, a review of some Sulpizio slides or webcasts nay be in order. <ggg>

"They can't come and criticize Nokia if they're going to promote their technology in their own way," he said. "People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."

ROTFLMAO - boy does life ever imitate the high art forms we've developed on SI!
