Incidentally I saw Strauss interviewed (always referred to as "the beret-wearing chief executive officer of JDSU") and I have to say (IMHO) he is a not a good person to put in front of the camera. If you made a list of all the things you should not do for public presentation he would have every one of them. I can't understand why JDSU doesn't see that and either train him or put somebody else in that position.

Well, they got rid of Abbe, so that's a start. I don't think Strauss should go --- I actually don't mind his quirks --- but if his public presence hurts the company, he should have someone else handle the press.

The next few years will be interesting --- on many levels. And some day there'll be textbooks written describing what happened when the world moved from copper to glass. Articles like yesterday's WSJ report will serve as comic relief.
