I agree, you are almost certainly right. This sort of religious logic does however exist and has a name.

According to reports she began having difficulty after the 4th child. She obviously exceeded some psychological limit where she could no longer function as a rational person.

I was a only child and have 2 children. Did want more, but my wife disagreed and had tubal ligation. Many years later, I can appreciate her decision.

Without knowing the details, it is difficult to believe that this mother had the mind-set of say, Jeffrey Dahmer, Richard Speck, or Charlie Manson. Not to condone her actions, I still feel compassion for her.
