I've heard of something like that, but I'm not sure it is designed for salmon. Certain fish (bass, catfish and sturgeon for example) are tougher than all get up. I think you could leave a catfish on the dock in the sun for a half an hour or so and it would probably live. Salmon and trout are fragile in comparison. Rub some of the slime off of them and the freeze in the water. When I release trout I try never to even touch the fish. Bring the fish in close, grab the hook (barbless) with my needle nose pliers and turn it upside down (the hook, not the fish) and off he goes (usually).
