<why should a VC put any money into mining a commodity like gold>

Many great resources fortunes have been made by aggressive venture and wildcat types. It's the nature of the beast, it's what they do. This business is not a bunch of little old ladies clipping coupons. The great classic read, "The Prize" talks about it in oil, the J. Paul Getty, Hunt, etc. Those guys were wild men, and speculators like them are lurking out there all the time, regardless of market conditions, but ESPECIALLY WHEN BLOOD RUNS IN THE STREET. Personally, I can't imagine a more opportune time for such types to steal assets (from the KGC's and PDG's of the world) for a song. I'm just trying to get on board some of them (I really admire NGT management for attempting it), and minimize risk as much as possible.

<To VT, regards my gut>

Don't know how reliable it is, but does size count?
